So, let's begin!
I grew up with a family that was full of collectors and artists and probably caught the bug from them! My mom is an incredible seamstress, my grandma was an amazing china painter, my aunt made a living as a fabulous florist, and another aunt has always been the queen of thrifting and bargain hunting, and my dad has built whole houses out of repurposed and recycled supplies! I've learned a lot of trade secrets from these wonderful people and I will introduce you to them more as the adventure continues.
Early in my married life (to the best hubs in the world), he supported my thriftiness and we decorated our homes with everything from old quilts and cast-away Mason jars. Back then, they called it a "country decor", but we just called it "making do"!
As our girls grew up with me scouring the bargain racks at the trendy shops ($.97 sweaters and jeans from Old Navy and Justice) and then, I would throw those outgrown itmes in buckets, labelled by size, into the attic. My younger girls loved to go "shopping" in the "attic store" when they needed "new" clothes. One time, while up in the attic, my youngest says "Hey mom, I'm going over to the shoe department. I saw some cute little black flats that I think I might like!". I giggled, knowing that she definitely found a bargain!
My girls know me so well, that this year for my birthday, one of my girls bought me the cutest dress from one of my favorite stores right now, Athleta. She was almost as excited about the cute dress as she was to tell me that she snagged it for only $4.95!! Of course, that made me love it even more!
I'd like to take you all on those bargain finding adventures! Sometimes I find the best goodies at the mall, but mostly, I find them at the thrift stores.
When I find these treasures that have been cast aside, I feel good finding them a new home or repurposing them into something new. Sometimes, I keep those goodies for my family, sometimes I re-create them into a cool craft for a new purpose, and sometimes I sell them to new loving families.
